Here at the LightInMyHands house, we do art journals for our littles instead of traditional baby books.

We’ve got an analog notebook and an Evernote notebook where we store snippets from their lives… funny quotes, anecdotes, milestones reached, etc.  This stored info will later be written in their art journal/baby book.

Everyone creates pages in the books.  After the pages are finished, we go back to our baby book notebook and transcribe the notes we’ve been taking on top of the art in the book.

The idea is to be different…to be creative and leave them something really special. When they are grown with families of their own, they can share with their children memories from their childhood, along with the creativity of their family.

My favorite journals are the Global Art Materials inc. watercolor journals.

We’ve had little T’s blank journal sitting around for some time… I’m just now getting around to getting it started.  I found this sketch in the book Mixed and Stitched and thought it would make a great cover for his baby book.

I printed the image and transferred it with graphite paper, and then painted it with fabric paint and acrylics.

Do you keep your littles’ memories in some unique way? Tell us about it in the comments!
